Real Growth, Personal Development from the Inside Out
It’s a tricky business. You can think you’ve pulled all the weeds of in-authenticity and the next thing you know, you’re realizing you’re doing something for the sake of “growth” that doesn’t really matter. The prolificacy of fake growth often hides in hard-to-find corners of your mind. It often arrives in unassuming forms.
Jonathan Mead – The Number One Self-Development Mistake, And The Fake Growth Addict
In the realm of Personal Development, Real growth is the key indicator of success or failure. So what defines real growth or false growth? Much of the information and programmes in Personal Development available are at best insincere and at worst scams. The belief that your problems can be fixed from the outside in, that your goals can somehow be found in between the covers of the latest glossy Personal Development book is the myth. Personal Development is well, personal. The Personal Development industry can only help accelerate real growth, it can’t start it.
Throw those books aside
Now don’t get me wrong, don’t burn your books just yet. Real growth which flows from your burning needs and tied to your goals will always be helped by knowledge from those who have gone before. In order to achieve that real growth you seek you need to tap into your inner genius first. You need to tap into that eternal knowledge which is permanent and immutable. Real growth comes from a place of authentic knowldedge and can be shaped by the thoughts of others.
Real Growth Adds to Your Being
Real growth is the development of the deep inner you. The you that feels your life not the you that perceives it. When we add to our experience of the universe or add to our capacity to contribute to the universe we add to that inner self we experience real growth. Real growth is the identification of the presence below consciousness fulfillment of it’s needs. Real growth is intuitive not cognitive no book can identify what lies deep inside us. The cookie cutter approach to real growth is fundamentally flawed. Real growth can only be achieved when we have learnt that we are not our thoughts any more than our words are our ideas. Our words are narrow abbreviated approximations of the ideas which inspired them and stand in the way of the burning fire of real and lasting growth. Similarly our thinking mind tries constantly to fit our deeper selves into constructs of logic and reason which are the enemy of the unconscious truths which inform real growth. We can use reason and logic to solve our problems and accellerate real growth but not to identify our problems or plot our course.
I think therefore I am imperfect
Descartes famously exclaimed I think therefore I am. This is 100% true for most all of us insofar as how we are perceived by the outside world. The person the world sees is logical reasoning creation in pursuit of real growth. This is the incarnation the world sees because we have been conditioned to do so. The problem with this logical reasoning construct is that it is malleable and pliable. Very simply put our reasoning mind is not in search of real growth. Our reasoning mind simply wants to find the answers. It only wants to survive. With this end in mind our reasoning mind often becomes a barrier to real growth. Logic says if we copy what other successful people are doing we in turn will become successful as well. This is true, and I recommend strongly that you model the success you wish to achieve. What success do you wish to achieve though? That is at the heart of real growth. Real growth is the expansion of your own personal values into goals and accomplishments.
Real growth is always inside out
Personal development theory and method sells the idea that this tool or that tool will solve your problems. This is disingenuous. We cannot act on matters that relate to the real growth of our inner being from the outside in. these problems grow deep from the roots of your being. They are manifestations of your self seperate from thought. Any attempt to act from the outside is doomed to failure. We need to connect with our inner desires and values. and forge them into meangingful goals for real growth to occur.
Real growth requires?
Real Growth requires that we release ourselves from our ego and the logical mind that seeks to become our identity. Once we have released ourselves the next step is simple we must accept what is within us. We have within us a voice which wishes to be heard and it is constantly whispering it’s wants and needs. Instead of listening we reason and make decisions based on what is expected of us instead of what we know deep within to be true.

Outside stimulus through positive experiences and negative experiences can be the catalyst for growth but you’re right that ultimately true personal growth comes from inside out.

Generally that outside stimulus only has short term effects unless it’s tied to some deeper change in thought or understanding. Too much of our reliance tends to be on other when the truth is at any point we’re just a nudge or a push away from the changes we seek.
